Opposite Sides of the Glass
Genesis 3:22

atheistbiblestudy:

There was a verse from the previous reading on the Fall of Man that I took special interest in, I thought that I would do a mini-study on that singular verse here.

“And the Lord God said, ‘The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” —Genesis 3:22

Upon first reading this verse I was appalled that God would be so blatantly arrogant. God obviously does not want to share his knowledge of everything with anyone but himself. As a result, man can no longer live forever. God was selfish and rude. First, by making the tree available to his creation. Then by telling them not to eat from it. Next, God allows Mr. Satan-serpent dude to tempt Eve. AND THEN God gets all bent out of shape because His creation knows what he knows now. I thought that I must be misunderstanding something, because I can’t imagine anyone who would want to worship a god like that. But I suppose not.

Apparently, I didn’t misunderstand anything. Man knowing ‘good and evil’ means that he had become celestial, wise and intelligent. God didn’t want His creation to be wise and intelligent and like Himself at all? Seems suspicious to me…

Because man became wise and intelligent, God kept him from being able to live forever. Like: “Ha! Take that man! That will show you! Whacha gonna do with all that wisdom and intelligence now suckaaa???” It is because man cannot live forever that he cannot learn ‘faith’ and can therefore not be saved (for it is by faith we are saved). No joke. That is what God is saying in this verse. God so obviously and purposefully tripped up mankind. I, personally, cannot fathom anyone ever wanting to worship a god like that. Please, if there is some Christian or Jew out there that can explain this to me, I want to know. ‘Cause as far as I’m concerned, this God is f-ed up.
