Before the fall of man, serpents apparently had legs. So God takes the legs away from the serpent and, as a result, all serpents. God doesn’t seem to recognize the difference between Satan and all serpents, so now all serpents have to suffer. God also references the fear of snakes that most women have, and he states that all of her offspring will have this same fear and distaste. It is important to note that a baby will play with a poisonous snake without fear, fear of dangerous things is taught to children by their parents.
